One on One Training
My First Student
This is Jeff Gerdes from Amboy, Ilinois.
Jeff came to me wanting to be refreshed on
deer mounting. He had previously owned a
taxidermy shop before life and a wife and
two daughters overtook him. He was
predominantly interested in refreshing his
dormant knowledge. He especially wanted
to get the right 'look' to whitetail eyes.
When I talked to him initially on the phone I
recognized exactly what he wanted
because I had had that EXACT problem
myself. He also want to learn to do
shoulder mount predators. He brought two
tanned deer capes and a fox shoulder and
a coyote shoulder with him. In two days we
mounted all four animals and Jeff returned
home with all of them. Jeff has kindly
consented to my listing him here and will

I have just started offering this service to other taxidermists or men/women
wanting to train for this exciting job opportunity. I can teach tanning, skinning and
basic mounting techniques for beginners. For the more advanced taxidermist I
can show you many shortcuts or just help you jump out of that rut you have been
in. Do you have a specialized problem that you face over and over (i.e deer eyes)
that you just don't seem to be able to overcome. Let me help! I teach out of my
home and offer lunch meals as part of the package. I am an advanced taxidermist
and have specialized in mammals for the past 5 years . I have been doing
taxidermy for 30 years. I am licsensed in Illinois. Cost is $275 per day and I will try
fit my schedule to yours. My teaching is very laid back. I typically will mount
whatever (or similiar) animal you are working on to show the techniques I employ.
Then...... you will mount the exact same type of animal with me looking over your
shoulder. I can supply skins or you can bring your own trophies with you. If it's a
mammal I can show you how to mount him realistically! If you want to talk please
